- La senda comienza por acá: Lat -41.084220 deg, Lon -71.547374 deg.
- Distancia y desnivel aproximado: 6 km (12 km ida y vuelta), 1200 m de subida
- Máxima pendiente aproximada: 30-35 grados
- Altura inicial: 850 m.s.n.m.
- Breve descripción: La senda comienza en la intersección de la ruta con el arroyo López, a la izquierda del local comercial, a unos 800 m.s.n.m. Seguir el camino y/o las marcas, la senda va bastante derecho para arriba. A eso de los 1200 m.s.n.m., el sendero pasa por el refugio Roca Negra, que esta al lado de una calle de autos. Seguir subiendo por el sendero, hay al menos dos opciones, cualquiera de las dos va bien. Se vuelve a cruzar el camino de autos un par de veces, justo en las curvas, hasta que el sendero se junta con el camino de autos, que sigue más o menos plano hacia la derecha.
Continuar por la calle de autos por aproximadamente 1.5 km, donde la calle se angosta. Cuando se está siguiendo la calle, prestar atención en la curva grande a la derecha (curva de unos 180 grados), en ese punto, todos los años se cae una avalancha, que junta bastante nieve de toda la cara de arriba, de orientación Norte . Es conveniente no pasar mucho tiempo en este lugar. Cuando se llega al punto en que se angosta la calle, elegir alguno de los senderos que sube, todos terminan en el refugio.
Desde el refugio se puede ver la cara Este del López, que acumula bastante nieve, debido a su orientación y a que los vientos en esta zona por lo general vienen del oeste. La pendiente se pone más empinada, así que hay que tener un poco de precaución antes de continuar, estar atento a las condiciones de la nieve, de las avalanchas, los pronósticos, la dinámica de grupo y las comunicaciones, y todo eso.
Desde el refugio todavía hay que ganar unos 550 m de desnivel hasta el filo, se puede seguir la picada de verano, que va hacia la izquierda (a mi no me gusta, particularmente, demasiado empinada), o se puede salir unos 200 metros a la derecha, hacia una pendiente un poco más suave. A eso de los 1900 m.s.n.m. hay una pequeña laguna, que en invierno está cubierta de nieve. Desde ahí se puede ver la cumbre principal del López. El pico turista está a la derecha bastante a la derecha de esta cumbre, siguiendo por el filo cumbrero, acá de vuelta se puede seguir el sendero de verano, que tiene unos 35 grados de inclinación, siguiendo para arriba por el filo que sale en la laguna, o si no, se puede pasar sobre la laguna, en dirección a la cumbre principal, para después travesear hacia la derecha para llegar al filo, con una pendiente máxima de unos 30 grados. Por cualquiera de los dos caminos se llega a una piedra que está sobre el filo, el pico Turista está atrás de esta piedra, a la derecha, por lo general hay que caminar un poco para llegar ahí. Desde el filo hay muy buena vista de las montañas de la zona y de algunos volcanes, como Tronador y Puntiagudo.
Desde este punto, se puede ir hacia la derecha (norte) para esquiar la pala este del López.

- Approximate distance and climb: 6 km (12 km round trip), 1200 m climb

- Approximate Max slope angle: 30-35 deg
- Starting elevation: 850 m.a.s.l.

- Brief description: The trail stars at the intersection between the road and Lopez creek, to the left of the shop, at about 800 m.a.s.l. Follow the trail, and/or the marks, mostly up. At about 1200 m.a.s.l the trail passes by Roca Negra hut, which is near a road, to the left. Continue up through the trail, there are at least two parallel options, any will work. You'll cross the road a couple times more, just in the turns, until the trail joins the road and continues more or less flat to the right.

Follow the road for about 1.5 km, where the road narrows. When following the road, watch out in the big turn to the right (about a 180 degrees turn), at that point, all the years, sooner or later, an avalanche will come down, collecting snow from all the north facing slope above, it's convenient to avoid stopping right in that place. From the point where the road narrows, choose some of the trails that go up, which lead to the hut. There are at least two options, all of them will get you to the hut. 

From the hut, you'll be facing the main East face of Lopez, which accumulates a lot of snow, doe to the prevailing winds from the west in this zone. The angle also gets steeper, so watch out where you are getting into, the snow conditions, avalanche conditions, forecast, group dynamics and communication, and so on.

From there, you still have to climb about 550 to get to the ridge, you can follow the summer trail, which goes more or less to the left (I don't like it, personally, too steep), or you can traverses about 200m to the right, to a more gentle slope. At about 1900 m.a.s.l, you'll find a flat spot, in the summer it's a small lagoon. From there you can also see Lopez main summit. Tourist peak is to the right of the main summit, you can follow again the summer trail, which climbs directly up, through a ridge of about 35 deg, or you can traverse left, over the lagoon and towards the main summit, and then climb right towards Tourists peak. This way the angle is more gentle, about 30 deg. With any of these options, you'll end up at Lopez main ridge, left of a stone, Tourists peak is to the right of this stone, you'll usually need some walking to get there. From the ridge, you'll have really good views of the nearby mountains and volcanoes, like Tronador and Puntiagudo.

From this point, you can also go right (north) to ski the main bowl.
